How To Manage A Toddler In A Long-Leg Cast: A Survival Guide

This summer, my daughter O fractured her femur. She was placed in a non weight bearing full leg cast for 6 weeks. Because of the injury that broke her leg, she sustained major scrapes on her knees. The hospital care team cleaned up the wound on her knee and dressed it before placing her cast, which was a long leg hip spica cast, basically from foot to hip and wrapped around the waist. Halfway through her cast journey, orthopedics cut off her cast to assess the wound, which thankfully healed without complications, and then they placed her in a long leg cast without the waist band. This cast was waterproof, which made the rest of the summer more enjoyable since she could get into (clean) water to splash around! I share the details of her cast variations to give you context, because, I'm sure if you're reading this, you've also found yourself in an unfortunate situation such as this one.
